The command to be “…given to hospitality” (Rom. 12:13) is simple but powerful. Hospitality is more than inviting someone into our home for a meal. Hospitality requires us to open our hearts, our time, and our lives to others. In Romans 12, the phrase carries the idea of actively pursuing opportunities to show kindness to others. Hospitality does not have to be elaborate.

Hospitality reminds people that they are seen, valued, and loved. In a world where many feel isolated, Christians have an opportunity to reflect the welcoming spirit of Christ. Jesus often took time for people. He ate with others, spoke with the overlooked, welcomed children, and showed compassion to those in need. When we practice hospitality, we follow His example.

Peter penned, “Be hospitable to one another without grumbling” (1 Peter 4:9). Hospitality should not be viewed as a burden, but as a blessing. God has given each of us something we can share, a home, a meal, a seat beside us in worship, encouragement, or simply our time. Be like Jesus!
