Why Is It So Easy?
David McPherson
Someone recently asked me, “Why is it so easy to sin?” While a number of answers could be given, there is one that stands out in my mind.
I believe the reason it is so easy for many people to sin is because they don’t hate sin like they should. The Psalmist wrote, “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil...” (Psalm 97:10). Sin is that which crucified our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If we truly love Him, we will hate that which caused His death.
Some think it’s wrong to hate, but the Bible teaches otherwise. In the book of Proverbs we read, “These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:16-19). If the Lord hates these, shouldn’t we hate them as well?!
When one hates sin like he ought, it will be harder to engage in it! Why not be like David, a man after God’s own heart, who said “...I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:104). Then, sin will be harder to condone, easier to avoid, and not so easy to commit.
